TEACHING AND LEARNING COORDINATOR

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I welcome all existing and new families to Sirius College. Students have had a great start to this academic year! They commenced the school with a high level of passion and have demonstrated a positive approach to their academic studies. All teachers of Sirius College team will work collaboratively to make the teaching learning process a rewarding experience for our students.

Teachers and parents play an important role in shaping the future of the children. We must support each other in achieving the common goal, which is to provide a good education to children. We must inculcate good study habits and organisational skills in children at an early stage to attain success.

Homework is an important component of a child’s education at Sirius College. It extends classroom learning while teaching them self- discipline and organisational skills. It fosters good study habits and provides an opportunity for students to be responsible for their own learning. In addition, it serves as a valuable means of communication between home and school about a child’s progress. We expect that all children complete their weekly homework and parents must sign when all assigned tasks have been completed. All year levels receive written and online homework each week except in the first and the last week of each term. Please ensure that they finish the online homework assigned on Mathletics and Reading Eggs as well.

We expect that all children will experience at least fifteen to twenty minutes of uninterrupted reading at home each day. The amount of time given will depend on age and the ability levels of students. We ask that parents read to and with their children, especially in primary school.

Teachers use ProcessMaker (software) to seek online consent from parents for school excursions and camps. Please complete the online consents in a timely manner so students don’t miss out on these wonderful learning experiences related to their curriculum.

If you have any concern, please ring the school and book an appointment with the teacher to discuss the issue.

I look forward to a wonderful academic year with your ongoing help and support.

Mrs. Amninder Malhi
